A LOOK INSIDE
My Approach
In my practice of psychotherapy, I utilize a whole person approach to help people deal effectively with life changes, whether they are trying to reestablish themselves in some aspect of their life or just redefining their life in a way that may provide new meaning.
I encourage them to also look inside themselves for the wisdom and creativity to undertake whatever is important and meaningful personally or professionally. This approach can lighten the emotional impact of change by turning fear into acceptance and excitement. I also recognize that some clients may benefit from support and treatment of other practitioners as a part of and complementary to therapy sessions.
I am able to assess their needs and refer them to other appropriate practitioners that can help. I work with a network of such practitioners, alternative medicine practitioners and chiropractors and acupuncturists.
Integrative Psychotherapy uses a synthesis of the Eastern and Western approaches for a variety of applications to maximize health and benefit: depression, anxiety, chronic pain and illness, stress reduction, panic disorder, insomnia, psychosomatic issues,
post-traumatic stress disorder, grief, childhood issues, marital discord, phobias, addictive patterns, family violence, abuse, personality disorders, and aging issues to name a few.
It is well suited for those who simply wish to improve their state of being through increased self-awareness and experience more balance, joy, and harmony in their lives. It promotes using natural resources from the plant world, body therapies, integrative medicine, and daily health practices to support the body/mind/spirit’s instinct and ability to heal.
We all have the ability to make the necessary changes to create new life. We only have to recognize its value, tap into it, and reach out— like a deep taproot ready to receive nutrients from the soil that feeds it. In this way, when we realize what is available to us, we can then make the choices that will nourish us, and inspire us to grow into our potential.
I use traditional Western psychological approaches to alleviate mental and emotional pain. In addition to traditional Western therapies, I also use Eastern therapies when needed. Some of these therapies are listed below.
I have a Master’s level hypnosis practitioner training from the NLP Center of New York where I have learned how to perform Ericksonian hypnosis. I incorporate inner child work, journey work, somatic experiencing as a part of hypnotherapy sessions, and other intuitive healing techniques during hypnosis to enhance one’s healing potential.

Hypnosis
Hypnosis is used to heal an array of issues such as anxiety, depression, past and present trauma, and some unhealthy habits. It is a state of deep relaxation where one feels free and more digestible to experience what’s in the subconscious mind.
In order to heal one needs to discover his/her core values and beliefs while in the state of hypnosis. Oftentimes people develop beliefs about themselves, relationships, and situations based on past traumatic experiences, especially their childhood.
During hypnosis, a person can discover and access these beliefs and with the right guidance and skills, an individual can allow themselves to eliminate these beliefs and manifest healthier beliefs. This will then transform into one making better choices. One’s whole life can be transformed as a result of this practice.
Somatic Therapy
Somatic counseling, also known as somatic experiencing therapy, or SE therapy, is a type of therapy that helps treat post-traumatic stress and effects from other mental health conditions.
This type of therapy connects a person’s mind and body to apply psychotherapy and physical therapies during treatment.
I believe a person’s inner feelings impact their physical form – I use mind-body exercises to release pent-up trauma from the mind and the body. By releasing these bodily sensations, a we work towards healing trauma from the inside out with this form of trauma therapy.

WHY SEEK INTEGRATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY?
In this culture we often believe we should “do it on our own,” and if that fails, then “just give me the pill to fix it.” Seeking psychotherapy is a positive step towards a more sustained sense of well-being. I encourage patients to bring to therapy the intention of reaching your goals to live a happier, less stressful, and more fulfilling life. Together I help my patients do the work that will enable them to achieve their goals.
MIND – BODY THERAPY
Integrative psychotherapy is an approach to healing and easing life’s problems by increasing one’s resilience and personal resources. It incorporates the fundamental principles of traditional psychotherapy and holistic medicine to promote healing on all levels: emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. Integrative psychotherapy aims to create a healthy alliance between mind and body to enable patients to manage stress and create a healthy lifestyle. In addition to counseling services, some of the tools used include meditation and visual imagery.
We know that our minds can quickly jump to worst-case scenarios, worry and self-defeating behaviors. We can feel overwhelmed, lose direction, and lose our center. These patterns of thought contribute to illness, stuck relationships, and loss of self esteem. I work with patients to develop and strengthen their mental and emotional health. This helps to increase the strengths that exist in each patient, discover new ways of managing current stressors, and create strategies to assist their movement onto a positive future.
People who enter into integrative psychotherapy are choosing a path of self-exploration that can yield many benefits. Therapy can help identify the causes of current concerns, help to identify factors that perpetuate problems, and also help patients become aware of fears or hurts that limit their psychological freedom. As patients come to understand what triggers their pain, anxiousness, or moodiness, the old patterns lose their hold. With the help of a therapist, patients can set goals and practice new, healthy behaviors, enabling changes to occur as they feel the courage and support to move beyond prior limitations of thought and attitude.
MEDITATION THERAPY
The benefits of meditation / meditation therapy are manifold. Meditation is a mental exercise, in which one focuses on breath or object or sound, in order to increase awareness of the present, to enhance one’s personality and bring about spiritual growth.
Meditation therapy is a technique or tool to look within to increase the conscious state. Meditation has been practiced for over 5000 years by Rishis, Yogis, medical practitioners, practitioners of Alternative medicine (Healers) such as Reiki, yoga, pranic healing and even lay people.
Meditation rejuvenates the body and mind and enables practitioners to rise to higher spiritual levels. It pulls the mind away from distractions, unwanted worries, anxieties and increases the inner strength. Meditation prepares a person mentally and physically for all challenges in life. It is the best method for students to increase their concentration and memory power.
Meditation is one of the best Alternative Therapies. It is a Mind-Body Medicine. It is a safe and simple method to balance a person’s physical, emotional and mental state. More and more doctors are prescribing meditation therapy along with their treatment to enhance and quicken the healing process.
BRAIN – GUT AXIS
The brain-gut axis is a hot new buzzword in the field of medical research. Researchers have discovered that there are multiple connections between the gut and the brain, which are maintained by nervous system and hormonal activity. Microfora, or gut bacteria, have an immense effect on your gut and thus on your health.
The brain-gut axis allows our intestines and the bacteria that live there to influence our health in a variety of ways. For example, people who have unbalanced levels of gut bacteria are more likely to suffer from PTSD. The exact mechanism to this theory is unknown, but serotonin is believed to be part of the answer. Our intestines contain more serotonin receptors than our brains. Serotonin is made by microorganisms in our guts, which means these tiny microbes can have a substantial effect on mental health.
In addition, these gut bacteria have their own circadian rhythm, which in turn affects our functioning. A growing body of research suggests these microbes are essential for human health, and that even a small imbalance may cause dysfunction.
If a patient has brain-gut axis issues I will refer them to a physician who will test their gut functioning and we will collaborate in the process of healing.

Challenging Period
Kathy Orah helped me get through a very challenging period of my life. Using meditation and hypnotherapy techniques and just plain frank communication in a relaxing setting, she helped me to reconcile with, to understand, and finally love parts of myself that had been long neglected.
The highest praise that I can give Kathy Orah is that she changed my life forever.

Marital Problems Solved!
I first met Kathy Orah through my wife. By that I mean I was having marital issues and needed to seek out some grave assistance. I’ve been meeting with Mrs. Sionit every week for almost one and a half years now. My marital problems have long been solved. We’ve moved on to matters ranging from work, family, and random occurrences that fate has dealt with me. We even ventured into the realm of hypnotherapy; which was far different from what I was expecting. I have absolute confidence in her ability to help any individual, especially since she has been able to set me on a clearer path to follow in life. I completely trust her and you should consider Mrs. Sionit when venturing into the world of therapy. Best of luck. Except, it’s not luck with her.
– Mr. M. Christina
Addressed Limiting Beliefs
Kathy Orah consistently supports me and increasing my awareness around my limiting beliefs and educates me with actionable tools and practices to overcome them. I particularly appreciate her guided meditation and hypnosis sessions that have been instrumental in increasing my presence.

Like Talking to a Friend
She makes me feel like I’m not only talking to a therapist but like I’m talking to a friend. What I noticed that my other past therapist didn’t do was think of other ways to cope with my problems and not just give me medications. She even introduced me to meditation to help me when I got angry or anxious. But the most important thing she taught me was that I wasn’t alone, she used examples of people (and still stayed confidential) that went through the same issues and what they did to cope. I’ve never been happier and it’s all thanks to my amazing therapist

Feeling Important & Validated
After graduating from college, I struggled adjusting to working full-time, moving back home with my parents, and figuring out what I wanted to do with my career. I quickly formed a habit of worrying about the future and fell into a cycle of anxiety and depression. I was skeptical about doing therapy because I didn’t think I was someone who needed it. I didn’t think my issues were “serious enough” to talk about and that I could just “get over it” on my own. I eventually realized I couldn’t go through my struggles alone, and I began seeing Kathy Orah. I have been working with Kathy Orah for almost 2 years, and my only regret is that I wish I had been seeing Kathy Orah sooner. She has not only helped me work through my cycles of anxiety and depression, but she has taught me valuable skills that have helped me to manage my day-to-day struggles as well. Kathy Orah is exceptionally positive, understanding, and accepting.
She has been a coach, encourager, supporter, guide, and challenger for me. She has always made me feel important and validated. Over our time together, Kathy Orah has helped me form a deep understanding of myself, helping me deal with the ups and downs that I face. My life has changed for the better because of my time with Kathy Orah.
